It is said that magnesium batteries are expected to be produced at a low price and there is a possibility that the capacity may even exceed that of lithium ion batteries. Yafan Nakamura, director of the center, said: "We can expect to replace lithium ion (battery) in some electronic devices in the future."
Saitama Prefecture was commissioned by the NEDO (Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Agency) and began formal research in 2008 at the center. Established technology in 2015 and promoted trial product development work with Fujikura Rubber Industry (located in Tokyo).
